He kept his promise to God, didn’t fire a single shot and saved 75 wounded soldiers. This is a true story about a man who was sent to one of the most deadliest, bloodiest battles in Okinawa, during, World War II.

Desmond Doss was raised in a house that believed strongly in God. As a child, he nearly kills his brother while fooling around outside. While his parents were caring for their injured son, Desmond reads the 10 Commandments and learns killing is one of the most important commandments. After a couple years, his father gets sent to war, when he returns, he became an alcoholic, and an angry, abusive person.

One night, Desmond wakes up to the sound of a gunshot, he rushes to his parents and sees his father holding a gun towards his mother’s head. Within an instant, Desmond rushes towards his mother, seconds before the trigger was pulled. He grabbed the gun, and pointed it toward his father. As anger filled him, he was getting ready to pull the trigger and kill his father for making the family suffer. But, his father breaks into tears when he realizes what kind of person he became. Desmond dropped the gun, and promised himself to never touch a weapon again.

On April 1, 1945, the battle in Okinawa begins. Desmod wants to serve his duty, so he signs up as a combat medic. When he arrives at the camp he is treated with much disrespect for his beliefs, but that doesn’t stop him. When he arrives at the battlefield, he carries nothing but a Bible and his faith in God. When Sergeant Howell orders everyone to leave the battlefield, Desmond stays and searches for injured soldiers, saving the total of 75 lives. Although the movie has many graphic scenes, I think that’s the best part, because it shows you different perspectives of the war. This is by far the best movie I’ve seen. It’s two hours you definitely won’t regret!
